Let's go beyond the lens. A photographer is an artist, and I have so many stories that I want to tell through my own art. Here are some of them.
What is Perfection?
Pink, brown, and red hair. Blue, green, and brown eyes. Immediate confidence, initial shyness, and in between. Each and every one of these traits makes these women unique. Glasses. Tattoos. Makeup. Piercings. Everyone expresses themselves in their own way.
What is perfection? Is it long hair? A skinny waist? Big lips? Flawlessly straight teeth? Society often tries to manufacture this set definition, but in reality, “perfection” is ambiguous. A set definition doesn’t exist. Beauty and elegance is found in each and every person, and no two individuals are exactly alike.
Lara Pallares expresses the idea that every woman is beautiful in the most straightforward way possible: by showing it. She photographs multiple women, all wearing similar clothes, but still showing their personalities and beauty through the small details. This was an effort to draw the viewer away from materialistic things (such as clothes) and instead focus on how they express themselves and their personalities that shine through in the images. Pallares’ work represents all women, including herself. It is often difficult when struggling with self image to believe you could be defined as “beautiful,” but there is beauty in everyone.
